Providers can access the recommendations, educational materials to print for their offices, and disease information among other items. CDC

A New Resource: Long Term Care Beds in MEXICO!

Here’s a new example of medical tourism, or at least the export of U.S. medical needs. Increasingly, patients needing nursing care, particularly those who live near the border, are taking up residence in Mexican nursing homes. Not only are Americans coming in and moving straight into nursing homes, the approximately 40,000 to 80,000 American retirees already living in Mexico are trickling into the country’s nursing homes as well. Public Comment Period on Case Load Chart

The Case Management Society of America (CMSA) and the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) are soliciting comments on a draft Case Load Chart that is under development by the Case Load Work Group. The Case Load Work Group is specifically asking you to make comments on what case load elements or factors should be considered, added, or deleted in the Chart. The Work Group plans to publish a white paper later this year highlighting and discussing what factors or elements should be considered when calculating case loads for nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals. CMSA and NASW hope that this project will help identify best practices that can be used nationally.

The public comment period will end at midnight (Central Time) on September 17, 2007. Click here to comment.

New Think Tank to Focus on Prescription Drug Management

Intel Corp. and Humana will partner with Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Surescripts, as well as pharmacy trade groups, on the Center for Improving Medication Management, which will conduct research on ways to enhance how prescription drugs are prescribed, filled and distributed among physicians, pharmacists and patients. The Center also is collaborating with Rand Corp. on an e-prescribing project www.theCIMM.org.
