If you have not taken the Benefits Survey introduced in last week’s Across My Desk, please visit www.cmrg.com and click on the Benefit Survey button located in the top left-hand corner of the page. All who provide an e-mail address with the survey will receive the final report. My goal is to have 200 professionals from across the country take this survey by February 9, 2008.
In this week’s Across My Desk, I would like to share with you the video of a presentation that I received from Healthcare Update Services last week. The video features the presentation that Linda Sanches, senior advisor for HIPAA Privacy Outreach & Training Office for Civil Rights, Department of Health and Human Services, Washington, D.C., delivered at the 15th Annual HIPAA Summit held in December. The title of the program was Enforcement and Policy Challenges In Health Information Privacy. Click here to access the video.
Ms. Sanches talks about the methods with which the HIPAA privacy rule is enforced and other issues handled by the HIPAA Office. We all are well aware of HIPAA and the rules that it has imposed on the healthcare industry over the past 10 years. I have often wondered what the process is like when a HIPAA complaint is registered.
I found this presentation interesting, and it answered many questions I had regarding the process. I thought that Ms. Sanches did a commendable job reviewing the law and explaining the in’s and out’s of the process. She said that, though this law has been in place for several years, a great deal of misunderstanding still exists. Her office goes to great lengths in educating the public and those in the industry with regard to the law and what constitutes a violation.
As we are all impacted by HIPAA, I hope you take a few minutes to review the video. Let me know what you think about this informative presentation.
Have a great week!
