As you read this edition of Across My Desk, the Case Management Society of America’s 18th annual conference is in full swing. This yearly rite of collegiality and education, taking place this year in Orlando, Fla., brings together case managers from across the continuum of care to learn about emerging trends and to network with fellow colleagues, and it gives us the chance to come together with old acquaintances – and to make new ones.
This year, the conference will abide by a slightly different format. The Membership Meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 17, along with the commencing keynote speech that marks the official opening of the show. The exhibit hall will hold the grand opening on Wednesday afternoon. The week promises to be bursting with workshops, symposia and breakout sessions from morning till night. Visit www.cmsa.org to view the agenda.
As promised, I will be sending daily updates via Across My Desk starting Wednesday, June 18. If you are unable to make the show, these daily capsules will provide a thorough overview of the proceedings. The conference promises to be a great learning and networking event, so stay tuned for daily updates.
Dorland Health will have a prominent position in the exhibit hall this year. If you plan to attend, make sure to stop by and say hello, take a look at our products and services, and – here it gets important – receive a free T-shirt.
Shifting gears, if you have not yet filled out the brief 2008 Salary and Trends Survey, an important collection of industry data, you can access it by visiting www.caseinpointmagazine.com and clicking on the icon in the upper left-hand corner of the page.
As I write this editorial, I am also in the process of developing the agenda for the Editorial Board Meeting to be held on Wednesday, June 18. As readers of Across My Desk, I welcome your comments to the following questions that are of perpetual importance to our field:
1. What are the major trends that you are seeing in your practice?
2. What resources do you need to improve your professional development?
3. Do you have trouble finding continuing education programs to meet your licensure and certification requirements?
4. Are there leaders that you look to as a mentor in your area of practice? If so, share them with me so we can tap into their expertise in our ongoing Leadership Series.
These types of questions will assist the editorial staff in understanding your needs as we deliver valuable information in the pages of Case in Point and in other tools. Please e-mail me directly at allewellyn@contexomedia.com. The input that you provide allows us to make sure the content that we develop meets your needs.
Have a great week!
