In early 2008 I submitted Case in Point magazine, a publication directed toward practitioners of case management, into the 20th annual APEX Contest for Publication Excellence. The categories I submitted it to were Graphic Arts, Magazine and Journal Writing and Most Improved Publication. I am proud to announce that Case in Point was chosen to receive the 2008 APEX Award for Publication Excellence in the area of Magazine and Journal Writing.This award is a tribute to the staff that is dedicated to producing Case in Point. At the same time it is a validation to ourselves and to our readers that Case in Point serves the case management industry as a quality publication.APEX is sponsored by the editors of Writing That Works, a bimonthly newsletter for communicators who write, edit and manage business publications. Writing That Works is published by Communications Concepts Inc., providing problem-solving information to professional communicators since 1984.APEX awards are based on excellence in graphic design, editorial content and the success in achieving overall communications effectiveness and excellence.The organization reported that the competition was intense this year as there were 4,479 entries for the following categories:
- Newsletters: 490
- Magazines & Journals: 837 (the category in which Case in Point was entered)
- Magazines & Newspapers: 139
- Annual Reports: 241
- Brochures, Manuals & Reports: 501
- Electronic & Video Publications: 231
- Web & Intranet Sites: 309
- Campaigns, Programs & Plans: 286
- Writing: 745
- Design & Illustration: 504
- Special Publications: 196.
Out of the 4,479 entries there were 1,393 APEX Awards of Excellence given out recognizing excellence in 110 various categories.If you do not currently receive Case in Point, you can view the current and archived issues on our website. As an added bonus to our readers, each issue of Case in Point is approved for 4 contact hours by the Commission for Case Manager Certification and the Certification of Disability Management Specialists Commission.
